When I came to W.L.C., my life changed…

“Well first of all Hi, my name is Candelaria Renteria but they call me Candy for short. Before I came to W.L.C. I was falling apart, my life and my studies at my old school. When I came to W.L.C., my life changed. I stopped doing drugs, I stood away from the people that were bad influence to me. I got in the sauna and it helped me alot. I started feeling clean, my mind was clear, I could focus better in my work. Once I did a month and a half. I was getting trained to become a tutor. Now I’m a tutor at W.L.C. It feels good to help others that need help. Then I was coming here in school and I was getting the help by Mr. Jacques. He helped me a lot. Before I did not know how to clear up words. Now all the courses that I did here is helping me at my new school. I’m ahead in all my classes. I feel good knowing that I know how to clear up my misunderstood words and to do my math like nothing with no problem. I want to thank everyone at W.L.C. especially Mr. Jacques for pushing me and giving support.” - Candelaria Renteria

Well I’ve learned a lot during this course. I’ve learned that learning is the key to life, and learning makes your life better and happy. Also, I’ve learned that you shouldn’t put a limit to what you could learn. Darshell Paxton

I’m doing good in the new school…

“Well I can say I’m doing good in the new school ‘Youth Build’. When I’m stuck and feel like giving up I use what I learn here, I look up the misunderstood word. I actually don’t get distracted like I did before. Even though there’s kids there that just don’t care and don’t want to be in school. I avoid those that don’t care and do what I got to do, which is my work. I went to that school to do my work and not just get credits but earn them too. The courses I use while I’m over there is the communication course and learning how to learn especially. I’m glad I came here and learned and got techniques fom W.L.C.” – B.P.

I feel GOOD!

Success with grasping basics can make all the difference with a student who is illiterate:

I learned a lot of new words and meanings of words and the short “I” sound and I feel that I learned a lot and I feel GOOD!- IP

The lesson “u” was easy. My tutor made this lesson easier. I did struggle but my tutor made me understand it a lot more. I did find out on the different ways on using the letter “u” in spelling and reading. I can’t wait to [get to] the next lesson. – MA

You can’t imagine how I feel right NOW!

I am in the process of studying a book called “Learning How to Learn.” The book was so basic it had challenges. The book started talking about the 3rd Barrier of Learning “Misunderstood Word.” This barrier causes a student to become blank, daydream and not to remember what you read. The book described me to a “T”! I was so excited because I learned what my problem was my whole life and still is. Now I am a better learner and I am so excited. This course was just what I needed. You can’t imagine how I feel right NOW. It’s awesome. – AM
