World Literacy Crusade, based in Compton, California, establishes community-based programs offering literacy, drug rehabilitation, drug-free mental health and criminal rehabilitation services in communities throughout the world. Our programs offer an alternative to drug-based models that place educational labels such as “learning disabled”, “hyperactive” or “attention deficit disorder” on children. Ritalin, Prozac or any other drugs are never used on children in our programs.

Literacy Programs
After just three months of instruction, 57% of our LIteracy Program participants increased their reading aptitude by an average of 2.5 grade levels, according to a 2003 assessment.

Therapeutic Drug Rehabilitation & Detoxification
Our drug treatment program has a 76% success rate. More than three quarters of those who have completed the program over the past six years have not returned to illicit drug use or been arrested.

Alternative Mental Health Program
Delivers mental health options to treat symptoms commonly attributed to mental illness, holistically and without the use of dangerous, mind-altering drugs.

79% of students completing the program never return to drugs and go on to become responsible, participating community members.

Chaka Khan Art Club
Now expanded to 3 inner-city areas, The Chaka Khan Art Club teaches various forms of art to students including vocals, graphics, stained glass painting and others - allowing children to express themselves using the different mediums of art.
